Article of Warren Buffett Value Investing

Hi,
Seekingalpha's Article The "Four Filters" of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger. Warren Buffett and his business partner Charlie Munger are two great example of value investing.

In the article Warren Buffett has talked about the Four Filters in several ways. This behavioral sequence is always similar [1]: Charlie and I look for companies that have a) a business we understand; b) favorable long-term economics; c) able and trustworthy management; and d) a sensible price tag.

These ideas sound so simple. Many people hear them at the Berkshire Hathaway annual meeting in Omaha each year. The article gives more detail about the four filters in five Chapters.

Warren Buffett New Bond Insurance Company and Ambac

Hi,
Warren Buffett had offered to guarantee $800 billion of municipal bonds backed by MBIA Inc, Ambac Financial Group Inc and FGIC Corp, three large bond insurers back in earlier Feb.

According to Earth times Ambac Insiders Respond to Warren Buffett , Warren Buffett's bond insurance company would, for $5 billion in capital, capture a third of the municipal-insurance market. As for the insurers, the deal would steal the best part of their businesses, leaving them to deal with their heavy exposure to sub prime assets.

Ambac rejected the offer leaving everyone wondering what steps they would take to maintain their crucial AAA rating. After Ambac share price has fallen to a 52 week low and eight of the company insiders have purchased shares in their own company. Is Ambac at a bargain now?

Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked.

Hi,
Warren Buffett quotes: "Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked."

Too often people buy thing they don't understand and think is at a bargain. An example is when you see a shop at a 50% discount storewide you will tend to buy some thing in the shop, as you will think it is a bargain. When you reach home then you will find out that the item you just bought is spoilt and you have been cheated by the store.

In the stock market it is almost the same. People always buy thing without understanding them. Thinking that the price had drop more than half and they should be able to get a bargain if they buy now. Warren Buffett famous quote: Risk comes from not knowing what you're doing tell us that you can lose money from not knowing what you are doing.
Remember Warren rule of investing Rule No.1: Never lose money. Rule No.2: Never forget rule No.1. It is hard for small investor to understand everything and you can spend a lot time doing that. Mr. Buffett suggests investors who don’t want to spend a lot of time in investing to buy low-cost index funds. This would give investor a good return in long-term.

Look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it.

Hi,
Warren Buffett famous quote:"Look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it."

In 2008, US stock markets seem to have many uncertainty, In one day the Dow, NASDAQ, and S&P can have a great gain t and on the other the market can have a big loss. The Market fluctuation seems to create chance for investor.

Warren Buffett taught us that to look at market fluctuations as your friend rather than your enemy; profit from folly rather than participate in it. Currently the stock market really does fluctuate and stock markets always have too many uncertainty.

It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price. Another Warren Buffett famous quote, regretless of stock market is a bullish or bearish there always chance for us to profit from it. Most people get interested in stocks when everyone else is. The time to get interested is when no one else is. You can't buy what is popular and do we

Hi,
Mr. Warren Buffett Quote: "Most people get interested in stocks when everyone else is. The time to get interested is when no one else is. You can't buy what is popular and do well."

During the bullish most people buy stocks to rid with the market, during bearish people will sell to cut loses. Mr. Buffett one of the best investor in the world had a different view with the crowd. Mr. Buffett is a value investor and one of the principles is that he would buy stocks only at a very attractive price.

Warren Buffett would only buy stocks that if he thinks it a bargain for Berkshire Hathaway shareholder, he always like thing to get cheap. With around 40 billion in hand Berkshire Hathaway can buy a lot of great company but Mr. Buffett would only buy them if he think the value of the share is much higher then the current stock price.

Stock Market seems to rally two day ago as the Fed would seem to cut interest rate. Yesterday, The Fed cut its fed funds rate to 3.5% from 4.25% and also its discount rate to 3.5% from 4%.

With great news the stock market seem to rally for Monday and Tuesday. The main thing here is should investor continue to buy stocks? Would investor overpay the stocks they are buying?

What is a bargain now? Is now the best time for value investing, buying stocks the Warren Buffett way? Come on give me your comments...

It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price.

Hi,
Regretless of stock market is a bullish or bearish, Mr. Warren Buffett would only buy equity base on his strict principle. Berkshire Hathaway did not always have the change to buy Stocks of the business they like under its net asset value. The reason may be there are too many speculators in the stock market.

Warren Buffett would read hundreds and hundreds of annual reports every year, He would value the company base on what he understand, if the company have favorable long-term prospects, is it Operated by honest and competent people and only buy them at a very attractive price.

Warren Buffett always looks at the business and not the stock price. Mr. Warren Buffett famous quote: "It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price." Warren Buffett also said that when buying stocks you are not buying just a piece of paper you are buying an interest in the business. You own the business not just a piece of paper.

CNBC Buffett Watch What Would Warren Buffett Do? - Timeless Strategies report that the stock market continue to fall, but Mr. Buffett is a long-term investor, who invest in solid companies selling at a discount, as he always does. Don't just buy stock just because there are cheap or that is a bargain. Learn from Warren Buffett the billionaire’s investor look for good business that you can understand and you may want to buy them a fair price than a fair business at a wonderful price. Circle of Competency

Hi,
When coming to buying Stocks, Warren Buffett always had 4 aspects of what he will buy:
  1. One that we can understand
  2. With favorable long-term prospects
  3. Operated by honest and competent people
  4. Available at a very attractive price.

Mr. Buffett always teach us when Investing we are to stay in our "Circle of Competency". In his annual report Warren Buffett said: "You don't have to be an expert on every company, or even many. You only have to be able to evaluate companies within your circle of competence. The size of that circle is not very important; knowing its boundaries, however, is vital."

Warren Buffett does not use beta, efficient markets, modern portfolio theory, option pricing or emerging markets when investing. He always looks for the 4 aspects and purchases at a rational price whose earnings are virtually certain to be materially higher five, ten and twenty years from now.

Warren Buffett bought Coca-Cola Company and Gillette, two examples of the 4 aspects he wanted during he purchase. Warren Buffett had taught us what we should do when investing and he is a living example.

News Update on Berkshire Hathaway Assurance Corporation

Hi,
In last year 2007, in my post Berkshire Hathaway get license for bond insurance, we had seen Warren Buffett make move in to their municipal bond insurer business. Early in 2008, we also see Ajit Jain, who runs Berkshire's insurance businesses make some deals in my pervious post Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Assurance Corporation.

We also see Ambac and MBIA two bond insurers stock prices keep falling since Berkshire Hathaway Assurance Corporation has appear. MBIA Inc stock price has fallen from its 52 weeks high of $76.02 to $8.55 and Ambac Financial Group Inc stock price has fallen from its 52 weeks high of $96.10 to $6.20.

Friday Associated Press reported that bond insurer Ambac Financial was downgrade by Fitch Ratings, cutting the company's crucial financial strength rating to "AA" from "AAA." Could it be a bad thing for bond insurers? Or is it just a bargain for investor?

In (AP) report, Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Assurance Corporation could get a boost. Warren Buffett launched a new bond insurance business in December that has an "AAA" credit rating and a solid balance sheet. View Ambac Downgraded, Cities Seen at Risk for more information.
